In the past year, the Asian American community has been subjected to increased amounts of discrimination and violence, including most recently the shooting in Atlanta which took eight people’s lives, six of whom were Asian women.
Just as we fight discrimination against people with mental illness, NAMI-NYC stands against discrimination towards any community, and we condemn all acts of brutality and racism on the Asian American community.
In a year filled with uncertainty, fear, and isolation, we worked hard to stay connected, and we must not tear ourselves apart through prejudice and violence.
Racism is a serious public health crisis, and we recognize the impact racial trauma has on mental health. As a mental health organization serving the most culturally, ethnically, and racially diverse city in the country, it is our responsibility to serve all. We are committed to providing resources to Asian American community members in any way we can.
