Additional demographic and personal information is collected when volunteers participate in NAMI-NYC services in alignment with our standard operating procedures for the program as outlined in the following paragraph.
If you seek our help, such as through our classes, support groups, referrals, by calling our helpline, or by using our online chat or text feature, we may collect: identification and contact information, including full name, phone number (which we may use to contact you, including by Short Message Service (SMS) text messaging), email, postal zip code, full address, and emergency contacts name, phone number (which we may use to contact them, including by Short Message Service (SMS) text messaging, if they have opted-in to that service), and relationship; demographic information including gender identity, date of birth, date of birth for your ill relative (when applicable), race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and primary language; and personal information including your relationship to mental illness and other pertinent information. For class registrants, in addition to the above, we collect personal information including diagnosis of self or ill relative (when applicable); information related to the onset of mental illness, treatment and hospitalization history; and other Personal Information you choose to provide as part of receiving our services, or share in our classes or through our helpline, including Personal Information that may lead to an inference of your health status, family life or diagnosis.
You may always call our helpline at 212-684-3264 if you need anonymous assistance. Individuals 18 years of age or older may attend our adult support groups anonymously if they choose. Unfortunately, we cannot allow individuals 14-18 years old to attend our support groups anonymously.
If you use our online chat or text feature, we and our third-party chat and text service provider, RingCentral, may keep a transcript of your chat or text with us. By using our online chat or text feature, you agree to allow RingCentral to record a transcript of your conversation.
By opting into our SMS communications, you agree to receive messages related to the services and activities of NAMI-NYC as it relates to your Helpline inquiry, subject to our Terms of Use. These messages may include, but are not limited to: emotional support, psychoeducation, links to program meetings, links to support resources, phone numbers to receive additional support at. We will not share your opt-in to an SMS campaign with any third party for purposes unrelated to our services and activities. SMS consent is not shared with third parties for marketing purposes. We may share your Personal Data, including your SMS opt-in or consent status, with third parties that help us provide our messaging services, including but not limited to platform providers, phone companies, and any other vendors who assist us in the delivery of text messages.
Messaging frequency may vary depending on the nature of the communication with our Helpline. Message and data rates may apply based on your mobile carrier’s plan.
